(Denver, CO) - Tara and Dillon (a fellow junior) showing her Lester twin heifer calves at the 2007 National Western Stockshow. She placed 3rd and 4th in the her class in the junior show and 4th and 7th in her class the open show.
Chuck and Linda along with their children, Brandon, Tara, Brian and Elizabeth have been in the Gelbvieh business since 1998. They live on the family farm east and south of Venango, NE. They started out with 8 heifers and have been producing seedstock ever since. All four of the kids have been or are now involved in the Junior Gelbvieh Association where they show their own cattle. The kids also have their own seedstock and have bulls to offer for sale.
They have an extensive AI program. The AI sires are chosen to produce what the cattleman wants in a herdsire. They use gelbvieh, angus and red angus bulls in the program. The bulls for sale are selected though several critera including disposition, birthweight, weaning weight, yearling weight, ribeye, and soundness. They raise both purebred and balancer cattle. Both red and black are also represented. The cattle are evaluated at birth, weaning, and in January when they are ultrasounded for ribeye and backfat. They also operate with an extensive vaccination program. Any livestock not kept for breeding stock are fattened in their own feedlot and sold on the grid with carcass data.
